PLITVICE LAKES
Croatian National Park -
World heitrage The area of Plitvice lakes, declared a National Park in 1949, is a valley situated between high forested mountains in which lies, one bellow another, a string of sixteen beautiful lakes and tarns of crystal blue-green color. They are fed by many small streams and brooks and spill into each other in foaming cascades and thundering waterfalls. Due to their unique evolution and beauty, in 1979 the Plitvice Lakes were entered in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Plitvice Lakes delight by their scenery. In the waterless karsts with its sparse vegetation you come suddenly upon a treasure of water in which are reflected densely forested hills. Here is a diversity and an inexhaustible abundance of details, on every visit things are discovered. The exceptional beauty of the lakes and waterfalls, rich plant and animal life, contrasting colors, forests and pure mountain air, comfortable hotels and rustic restaurants attract many nature lovers from all over the world.* |

BARAC'S CAVES The three out four Barac's caves that have been explored are decorated with rare forms of stalagnates, pillars formed by the merging of stalagmites and stalactites. The traces of early (primitive) man have also been found with the remains of long perished animals and after 111 years the caves are now open again for tourists' visits. Barac's caves are 6km east of Rakovica, near village Nova Krslja. and it's about 20km from guest house.** |

DREZNIK CASTLE On the barely accessible sides of the gorge above River Korana, on the borders of Christian Europe and Turkish Bosnia, the rulers of the Croatian fortress Dreznik changed many times over centuries of warfare. Today it is awaiting it's promised restoration and approval as a tourist attraction.** |
